“Iyo Studies” class held.
○date: Monday, June 27th, 2016, 6th & 7th Period
○place: Ehime University Senior High School
○participants: The whole of 10th grade
○lecturer: Mr. Eiji AKIYAMA, Professor, Faculty of Law and Letters, Ehime University

Students learned the Ehime dialect in the theme of “Mystery and pleasure of words -Dialect and culture of Iyo-“. The Iyo dialect can be categorized into three groups, Toyo (eastern area), Chuyo (middle area) and Nanyo (southern area). It was illustrated with specific examples that the Iyo dialect is very friendly sounding. Students exchanged ideas on typical Iyo dialect examples in a group discussion. “Tsukue wo kaku” and “Ittekowai” which are often used at school were introduced by many groups.
The image of dialect has been changing from good and old local words to valuable tools in the cultural and economic fronts. It led students to think how to appeal the Ehime dialect to the world as one of the challenges to all the students in the future.
